We walked home under a champagne sky
Upon arrival laid our clothes to dry
And as I laid my body down
I began to hear the sound you hear
When something
Inside you dies

I dreamt that night of lines of people on a road
The dust was thick from heavy traffic that had slowed
“Where we goin’?” I asked someone
And I knew that I was done when he
Said something
Like “Just get in the line”

And in that moment, my legs did not seem to know
Just how to move so I could step into that row
And as I felt my body freeze
I cried out to no one “Please!
I need something…”
The only word I could find

I woke up inside the champagne sky
And on a cloud I laid my coat to dry
But when I laid my next step down
My feet sank into the ground
And there was nothing
To pull me up but my mind

I dreamt that night of lines of people on a road
The dust so thick from heavy traffic oh my lord
